AAF-Akron Welcomes President Obama’s Former Creative Director 
Member of First-Ever Office of Digital Strategy

AAF-Akron invites the Greater Akron community to attend “How Design Transformed the Obama White House,” featuring Ashleigh Axios on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018, at 11 a.m. Part of the AAF-Akron Professional Development Speaker Series, the event will be held at The Tangierlocated at 532 West Market St., Akron. Doors open at 11 a.m. with a buffet lunch at 11:30 a.m. and introduction of Axios at Noon. 

Axios served as the creative director and a digital strategist for the Obama White House, bridging two presidential terms in the first-ever Office of Digital Strategy. In an hour-long talk packed with tips and nostalgia, she will provide attendees with behind-the-scenes insight into how innovative design and digital strategy were developed in-house at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue during the Obama administration. T

he presentation will include details on how a small design team transformed daunting challenges into successful digital campaigns, from scalable tactics for tackling limited resources to overcoming impossibly quick timelines and experimenting while in the public spotlight.

While working in the White House, Axios created meaningful opportunities for the public to engage with the Obama administration. Her achievements include:

  • Leading the product and design strategy for two State of the Union addresses, helping President Obama speak to people where they were
  • Leading the responsive redesign of WhiteHouse.gov (currently archived)
  • Visually redesigning the White House petitions platform
  • Supporting the historic Supreme Court same-sex marriage decision with the rainbow White House iconography
  • Establishing a digital system for presenting the Obama administration record

 

Tickets, now available at aaf-akron.com, are $20 for members of AAF and AIGA, $35 for non-members and $15 for students (must have a valid student ID). Cost includes buffet lunch. The deadline to register is Monday, Sept. 17.

Ashleigh Axios is an international speaker, strategic creative, and advocate for design's ability to break barriers and create positive social change. She leadsThe Studio, where she functions as an executive creative director for Automattic, a company with the mission to democratize publishing and commerce.
