AAF-Akron Seeks 2019 Silver Medal Nominations
Prestigious award honors outstanding contributions by local advertising professionals

The Akron Chapter of the American Advertising Federation (AAF-Akron) invites the community to submit nominations for its distinguished Silver Medal award. The AAF-Akron Silver Medal recognizes men and women in the Greater Akron area who have made outstanding contributions to the local advertising community. Nominees do not have to be members of the AAF-Akron organization. Nominations may be submitted at aafakron.com/AAF_Akron_Silver_Medal. The deadline is Saturday, December 8, 2018.

The American Advertising Federation Silver Medal Award Program was established in 1959 to recognize men and women who have made outstanding contributions to advertising, as well as have been active in furthering the industry’s standards, creative excellence and responsibility in areas of social concern. This local award is the highest level of recognition given by the Akron chapter of AAF and is akin to a lifetime achievement award in advertising.

The Silver Medal showcases more than just exceptional industry talent,” says Steve Govern, AAF-Akron chairman. “It recognizes those who have made a significant impact on countless employees, clients and non-profit organizations throughout their careers.”

An AAF-Akron special committee will select the winner among all submissions during a closed session vote in late December 2018.

Award criteria include:

• Contribution to His/Her Company
Must have achieved success in one of the following areas of work: advertising agency, advertiser, media or advertising service.

• Creative Ability
Must have shown a consistent, high degree of original thinking in his/her field.

• Contributions to the General Advancement of Advertising
Must have worked to increase the stature and raise the standards of the advertising profession.

• Contributions to the Community
Should be active in other groups dedicated to human or social welfare in their community.

Past AAF-Akron Silver Medal winners include Janet VonGunten, retired business development representative at Veritiv Corp.; Doug Smiley, founding partner of former Smiley/Hanchulak Marketing Communications; and Jack DeLeoretired president/CEO of Hitchcock Fleming & Associates, Inc. (hfa).

The 2019 Silver Medal Award will be presented at the Akron-Canton American Advertising Awards (formerly the ADDY® Awards) on Friday, Feb. 22, at The Akron Civic Theatre. Details are available at aafakron.com/ADDY.
